Innovate Conference

Today we started hosting the Innovate Church Conference at Thomas Road.  I was able to hear Lance Witt (former Exec. Pastor of Saddleback Church) and Dave Earley (Former pastor and current professor at LTS) speak on what a healthy pastor and church is in a "pre-conference" session that I was hosting this afternoon.

After the session I had a great dinner with Mark DeYmaz, Mosaic Church, who is on the front edge of educating church leaders towards embracing "multi-ethnic" church.  Thanks to you for your time and my head is still spinning!

The conference officially had its start with Rick Warren, Saddleback Church, speaking on the "heart" of the pastor.  I was refreshed and challenged.  He spoke to us as someone who loves pastors and displayed it evidently.

The main thing I walked away with was the Traps of Leadership from 1 John 2:
  • Lust of flesh = temptation to feel good
  • Lust of eyes = temptation to have
  • Pride of life = temptation to be

He followed up the Traps with these anecdotes for each:
  • Integrity = don't be compartmentalized be whole
  • Generosity = giving away so that I am not owned by my possessions
  • Humility = civility--evidence is seen by how I treat those I don't get along with and honesty about my weaknesses

Chip,

Sounds like you had a full day. I would have loved to hear what the guy from Mosaic had to say. I read this blog below and thought you would enjoy thinking about what it says. Clearly one visit does not constitute a full church experience BUT it seems as with many things, balance is in order. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for visiting my blog! I appreciate your question but am somewhat confused with your connection of "multi-ethnic" with "multi-media". Is your question based around thinking this Mosaic of Little Rock, Arkansas is the Mosaic of McManus or are you speaking of a specific experience with this church? I certainly have thoughts, whether they are beneficial or not is up for debate, on the subject of entertainment driven churches but wanted to make sure I was servicing your question accurately before I waxed poetic...

Go ahead and wax poetically about entertainment driven churches. How does an attractional church model stay away from this extreme?
