Discover Church Gives Back!

Way to go Discover Church!  I am very proud of you and your sacrificial involvement at Grove Park Elementary School.  We are grateful to support the faculty and administration at Grove Park, through Connect Groups you provided Christmas for many families in need!  Thank you Rachel Smith for coordinating our efforts.  You know it's a great haul when it requires a cart on wheels...

Beach Baptism/Cookout

On September 26th Discover Church had an incredible celebration of what God has been doing over the last several months.  We had the privilege of baptizing some wonderful people and spreading the fame of Jesus Christ in the waters at Jupiter Beach Park.  Here are a couple pics from the day and more can be seen on our Facebook page.

Big Move July 25th-Time and Location

We are thrilled about what the PGA Gardens Cinamax will be able to do for us as well as moving our time to 11am-12:15pm.  The new time will be much more friendly to our young families and who doesn't like going to the movies anyway?  So, don't miss out, come and join us at Discover Church!

Discover Church series--D90x

Here is the latest bumper video for our D90x series on spiritual disciplines.  All Discover Church videos can be found here.

Launch Sunday

Really proud of our Discover Church team. Our launch went incredibly well on Sunday night despite several challenges. This is a pic (for more pics/video check out the Facebook page) of our new set for the Illuminate series. For the next 3 weeks we will be attempting to make visible God's priorities for His church and in doing that unpack the commitments of Discover Church.

Illuminate Series

Sunday nights (6-7:15) for the next 3 weeks we will be making visible God's priorities for Discover Church. Hope to see you there, but if you can't make it you can listen to the audio from our site...

World's Greatest Launch Team

If you come to Discover Church on a Sunday night you may not get to see all of the people that really make things happen. Sooo here are some pics from this past Launch Team Meeting. Not everyone was present but you can see how blessed we are to have so many amazing people commit to give and serve to get Discover Church off the ground!

Love is Forgiving

Great time at the Gathering on Sunday night. God was faithful to set many free as they opened up their lives and their past to His grace. This is pic of what freedom looks like! You can listen to the message by clicking here. Join us on February 14th for our next Gathering as we continue in our Love Stories series.

Sneak Peak at "Everyone likes a good love story" series

For our January (10th, 24th) and February (14th, 28th) Gatherings at

Discover Church we are launching a new series. "Everyone likes a good love story" is going to be a high energy series of worship experiences aimed at exploring God's love for us and how that influences our ability to love those around us.

We need your help!

Our band is looking for your favorite love songs to select from to play at each Gathering. So...open up your ITunes and send me the titles of your favorites! Have fun with this but please do your best to keep the "lame" to a minimal (I know this is difficult considering our topic)!

Happy listening...

Discover Church Gathering Nov 15

Whether you are a child or an adult, curious about Christianity or devoted Christ-follower, this event is for you. Once a month Discover Church will be Gathering to look at life from God’s perspective. By turning out you can anticipate experiencing a casual, energetic and powerful night of worship and teaching from God’s Word that will have you looking forward to next month.

Eventually we will be meeting weekly but for now once a month will have to be enough to get your fix. The next Gathering is almost here Sunday night November 15 from 6:30-7:30 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Palm Beach Gardens. Check out www.DiscoverChurchPBC.com for directions/details. See ya there!

Take Away from The Gathering

Yesterday was a great day for Discover Church. A lot of prayer, hard work, sacrifice, and most importantly the tangible presence of a faithful God made The Gathering a success! The following are some of my randomly organized "take aways" from yesterday.

• Beginning the day in prayer and worship with Launch Team was quite possibly the most important thing we did in preparation for the night.
• For future church starters, do as much organization weeks out as possible.
• We will have a list of all the things we purchased, price, and where we found it
• Last night was a beautiful picture of what the Church could be. We had volunteers from LifeChurch.tv, FBC West Palm, and FBC Lake Worth go over and above, THANK YOU!
• Discover Kidz area (birth-Pre K and K-5th grade) looked warm, comfortable, and safe. Stephanie and her team did an amazing job!
• Benj led a high energy, powerful, excellent time of worship.
• Thank you Russell, Anthony, and Dustin for giving your time and talent.
• Sound was a huge challenge as it was our 1st time setting up but not too much of one for Danny Dagher.
• The entire process of loading trailer, unloading trailer, setting up staging/Discover Kidz, sound check, etc was for the most part without major surprises because of excellent team members (led by Jon Killian, you are the man) effort.
• Brittni was great in her announcements and intro of message (plus she looked really good)!
• Exciting number of FAU Honors campus students. Way to go Jordan and Amanda!
• We tripped a couple breakers and had to reallocate our power output but Aaron Leahy from A-Train Productions rolled with the punches
• Our screen was too big for the space (we measured incorrectly)
• Hilton Garden Inn provided an excellent atmosphere and professional attendants for the event
• We unloaded at 2pm for a 6:30 service start to allow for plenty of time
• The "Clean Slate" (rv.worshiphousemedia.com) video provided an excellent intro to the message
• Message was from Luke 19:1-10
• "Jesus has time for those pursuing Him"
• "Things are never a sufficient substitute for Jesus"
• "Genuine transformation is seen in legitimate change"
• "Jesus came to find those who don't know Him"

Discover Service Event

On Sunday Discover Church had a full day of service! From 12-3pm we showed the Jupiter/Gardens community that service is something that we not only talk about but also flesh out. We had the privilege of serving around 260 hot dogs and 300 bottles of water to people while they were relaxing on the beach at Carlin Park. Largely we have heard that people in this area are disinterested in "church" (only 5% go to church) because they feel the "church" has become disinterested in them. Our hope is that people will see how interested Jesus is in their lives by us serving them in such a simple way!

After cleaning up we went to FBC of West Palm Beach and served them by handling their childcare for birth thru 5th grade during their "Leadership Rally". I grew such deep appreciation for the children's ministry workers as Brittni and I had 4 beautiful 1-2 year olds in our room. Overall, the day was a huge success and we loved being able to partner with another church in our area that is doing so many great things for the Kingdom!

The Discover Church team did GREAT and I am so proud to be their pastor! So many exciting days ahead...

Lessons from the Journey--what I am learning

More lessons learned starting Discover Church

1. in our largely unchurched area (95%) most of the people who could be "core team" material are already invested significantly in their church.
2. it is extremely challenging to find people willing to consider leaving their existing church for a church start. Many do not desire to put forth the effort necessary to get a new church started and succeeding.
3. church planting is very hard.
4. God is very good.
5. in details, preparation, communication, etc present yourself and your church for where you are going not for where you currently are.
6. pray with your wife every night before you go to bed
7. if there is any way to have a true mother church then do it! They can help you overcome so many hurdles ($, core team members, facilities, insurance, accounting procedures).
8. investigate the "pool of potential" core team members in the area you will be going and adjust expectations accordingly. Things to investigate: % of people who attend church, % of claiming being "born again", % of those who live within 20-25 mins of area, and divide by .25 [amount of churched people willing to sacrifice enough to leave an existing church to be a part of a plant].
9. so many things are uncertain (people, $, locations to meet, etc.) spend time on what is certain (time with God, committed people, core team meeting prep).
